You can use Survicate with ActiveCampaign to:
Update the contact fields in the ActiveCampaign with the survey responses;
Add new leads/contacts to the ActiveCampaign list or automation based on the survey submissions;
Create automated email campaigns based on survey responses;
Build and send more targeted, segmented emails;
Track and maintain customer data for full context.
In this article, you will learn how to connect ActiveCampaign integration step-by-step on a survey level to send survey responses as contact fields or tags and create new contacts when someone submits a Survicate contact form.
Create your survey
You can send surveys via ActiveCampaign and collect answers from identified respondents.
The ActiveCampaign integration works with all survey types if the respondents are identified. See more in the Share your survey part.
In this guide, we'll show you how to create an Email or Shareable link survey and share it via ActiveCampaign.
If you'd like to connect the integration to another survey type, you can jump to the Connect your survey section.
Read on to learn more about how to create, configure, and set live your survey.
1. If you'd like to survey your customers via ActiveCampaign, you'll need to start by creating an Email or Shareable link survey.
Click on + Create new survey, select any creation method (a template, using AI survey creation, or adding your own questions), and the Email or Shareable link survey type:
For more in-depth instructions, check out this article.
2. In the Configure tab of the survey, select ActiveCampaign as the tool to identify respondents with:
Enable the ActiveCampaign integration
1. To enable ActiveCampaign integration, go to the Connect tab of your survey, find, and pick ActiveCampaign from the list of integrations.
2. Click the Connect button to set up the authorization.
3. A pop-up window will appear for you to authorize your ActiveCampaign account. Provide the credentials from ActiveCampaign ➡️ Settings ➡️ Developer and click Authorize.
If you don't see the pop-up window, you may need to allow pop-ups in your browser, please look for the settings in your browser URL bar, or use instructions for Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, or Safari.
💡 Please note that it's only possible to integrate one Survicate workspace with one ActiveCampaign workspace. If you'd like to run surveys in multiple Intercom instances, contact sales@survicate.com, or start a chat with us to purchase another Survicate workspace.
4. Now, the integration is ready to use! See the features we offer for ActiveCampaign integration under the settings:
Connect your survey to ActiveCampaign
In this section, we'll examine all the possible options and features that you can set up for each survey.
Update contact fields
Update contact fields
1. In your survey's Connect tab, move to the Settings of ActiveCampaign integration and select Update contact fields.
2. Select the question you wish to update the fields from. To avoid flooding your ActiveCampaign user profiles with data, we enable you to decide on a question level whether or not to send responses to ActiveCampaign.
❗️Ranking and Matrix questions are not supported for ActiveCampaign integration.
3. Select the prospect field you want to integrate with from the list or add a new one by writing the new field's name.
❗️We only support certain types of ActiveCampaign fields. Please make sure that you want to send survey responses to one of these fields:
Text input/area;
Date;
Dropdown.
By default, Survicate is sending the content of an answer as the prospect field value, but you can change the label to make it shorter or to fit your data structure - click edit mapping to modify these values:
📌Note: For the NPS® question, we send the values mapped based on the response group. However, if you'd like to receive your numeric value, you can enable the Send answers as 0-10 values toggle.
4. You can connect more questions to your integration by clicking ➕Connect another question and applying the same steps.
Send tags
Send tags
1. In your survey's Connect tab, move to the Settings of ActiveCampaign integration, and select Send tags.
2. Select the question for which you wish to pass the tags to ActiveCampaign.
📌 Please note that some question types do not support sending tags. In such cases, consider updating contact fields instead.
3. Assign tags to each answer using the tags field - you can use tags you already created or create new ones. You can assign multiple tags to your answers.
4. You can connect more questions to your integration by clicking ➕Connect another question and applying the same steps.
Create new contacts
Create new contacts
1. To create a new contact in ActiveCampaign from Survicate, add a contact form question to your survey with a required email field.
2. In your survey's Connect tab, under the Settings of ActiveCampaign integration, select Create new contacts and choose Contact Form from the dropdown.
There are two additional (non-mandatory) options to choose from:
When a new contact is created, automatically add it to a specific ActiveCampaign list - the contact will be added to any contact list of your choice.
When a new contact is created, automatically add it to specific ActiveCampaign automation - the contact will be added straight to the marketing automation you already have. For example, you could have new leads receive a welcome message immediately.
3. Pick the contact or automation list to which you wish to add the contact.
If there are existing contacts, we'll update them by overwriting them with the most recent data, instead of creating a new contact.
💡Feel free to enable other integrations in your survey as well, whether you're using CRMs like Intercom, Salesforce, or HubSpot, or if you'd like us to notify you of new answers to your survey via Slack or Email Notifications!
Test the integration
Once you have your survey ready and integration set up, you can test it without leaving Survicate - click the Test Integration button next to any attribute or tag you've created. We will create a test user and send answers in the format you selected.
You can view it by clicking Go to ActiveCampaign:
You should see any responses pushed to ActiveCampaign on the user profile:
Use the native ActiveCampaign app integration
If you prefer to use a version of our integration that lets you set up a connection with Survicate without leaving the ActiveCampaign User Interface, this feature is for you!
You'll be able to:
access a list of Survicate surveys directly in ActiveCampaign,
select which user fields to sync survey responses to,
and create a new contact in ActiveCampaign when someone fills out a Contact Form.
Connect the native ActiveCampaign app
1. Log in to ActiveCampaign and go to Apps. Search for Survicate surveys and select the app.
2. Click on Add an account and select Survicate workspace that you'd like to connect with ActiveCampaign via a native app.
3. You will see a new page. If you have more than one Survicate workspace, pick the one that should be connected to ActiveCamapaign, and click Allow.
4. That's it! The integrated workspace should appear under Connected Accounts in ActiveCampaign.
Use the Survicate native app
1. Each survey available on the integrated Survicate workspace is available in ActiveCampaign as a resource. Select the survey you'd like to configure by clicking on its name.
2. Now, you need to set up the required field so Survicate can send survey responses to ActiveCampaign.
❗️Please always set up the required field as Email ➡️ Email. Otherwise, the integration won't work.
3. Now, decide which ActiveCampaign user fields you'd like to send survey responses to.
Click on + Add field mapping to sync more questions:
You can sync all questions' answers to ActiveCampaign, or just some of them.
Map the Contact Form question
If your survey has the Contact form question, you can feed respondents' details into ActiveCampaign fields. Make sure you follow the setup below.
Survicate email field should always be mapped into the ActiveCampaign email field under the required fields. The rest of the details should be mapped into the corresponding ActiveCampaign fields under additional fields.
If an existing user answers your survey and provides new contact details, we'll update their ActiveCampaign profile. If a new user answers your survey, we'll create a new contact in ActiveCampaign.
Save the changes, send out your survey, and watch survey responses come into ActiveCampaign profiles. 🚀
Share your survey
After everything is set up in your survey, go to the Share tab and decide how to send your email survey.
The ActiveCampaign integration will work as long as respondents are identified!
1. If you created an Email or Shareable link survey, you can send it as a link or embed the first question in the email so that respondents start answering the survey right from the email.
Email Embed
Email Embed
Your respondents will be able to answer the first question now from the Email, and then they'll be redirected to a landing page to take the rest of the survey.
1. Click Get email code, then copy the HTML code.
2. Go to the ActiveCampaign email you want to use for the survey and pick HTML Block from the drag & drop editor.
3. Choose Click here to add HTML and paste the code in the pop-up window.
4. Finish editing your email and move to a summary by clicking Next in the top right corner.
Once your email is ready, we recommend sending the survey to yourself or your colleagues to see what the survey experience will be like for your respondents and to see if all responses are captured as expected, along with user data.
Please remember that sending a preview/test email will result in anonymous responses.
To thoroughly test the experience and the integration, email an existing contact using the Set live option.
2. If you created a Website or in-product survey, learn how to identify respondents by passing their email
with JavaScript. Then, launch the survey.
3. If you created a Mobile app survey, check here how to identify respondents by passing their email
attribute to Survicate with the Mobile SDK. Then, launch the survey.
💡 Alternatively, in any survey type, use a Contact form question to ask respondents for their email address (and, optionally, other details). Make sure to place the Contact form before the questions mapped to ActiveCampaign fields.
❗️Please note that the integration won't work for anonymous responses.
🚀 Once you've got everything ready, set your message live, and get ready to dive into your insights.
Analyze your survey results
After your survey starts collecting responses, you will see them immediately in the Analyze tab of the survey.
The Analyze tab shows you Overall results with statistics and over-time data, as well as Individual responses, allowing you to examine each survey submission in detail.
You can check out our guide for an in-depth description of all the possibilities of the Analyze tab.
Feedback in the Insights Hub
💡 To obtain even more comprehensive feedback, we recommend syncing survey responses to the Insights Hub, where they will be automatically analyzed and categorized into Topics along with feedback from your other sources, such as:
insights from support chats,
online reviews,
call transcripts.
After you connect sources to the Hub, feedback will appear there in real-time and it will be automatically segmented into Insights, and categorized into Topics:
The Hub will categorize and analyze feedback from surveys, calls, and other sources, to:
automatically detect customer sentiment;
identify technical issues and bugs reported by users and segment them into Topics and actionable Insights;
understand your customers' needs and wants better.
You can also ask the Research Assistant to quickly and effectively find answers to all your questions. The responses are generated based on the feedback you integrated into the Insights Hub and the answers collected with surveys in your workspace.

FAQ
Can my ActiveCampaign surveys be automated?
Can my ActiveCampaign surveys be automated?
Yes, you can create an automated flow in ActiveCampaign, so your survey will be shipped frequently. To do so, instead of creating an email campaign, in your AC panel, select the Automations option:
You can build your sequence there, along with triggers that will automatically start your flow and keep looping it.
How can I collect contacts' information other than first name, last name, and email?
How can I collect contacts' information other than first name, last name, and email?
You can add merge tags to your survey link if you want to collect particular ActiveCampaign contact properties (other than first name, last name, and email). For instance, you would like to collect the phone numbers of your respondents. To do so, you need to copy the survey URL from the Share tab and add appropriate merge tags to the URL.
Merge tags fetch respondent data such as phone numbers. Each tool has its own merge tag, so could you make sure you're using the right one? In our case, the merge tag is phone=%PHONE%.
Once you add it, the link should look like this:
https://survey.survicate.com/surveyId/?p=activecampaign&first_name=%FIRSTNAME%&last_name=%LASTNAME%&email=%EMAIL%&phone=%PHONE%
💡In such a case, before releasing your survey emails, make sure your ActiveCampaign contacts base contains the information you want to appear in Survicate.
Can I use the integration on the Survicate Free Account and Free Trial?
Can I use the integration on the Survicate Free Account and Free Trial?
Feel free to connect your account with ActiveCampaign and test our integration on the Free trial and then on the Free plan.
❗️On the Free Trial and Free Plan, you are allowed to collect up to 25 responses per month. Once you reach this limit, your surveys will no longer collect responses. Check out our Pricing page for more information.
I've created automation in ActiveCampaign, but it is disabled
I've created automation in ActiveCampaign, but it is disabled
When you're creating automation in your ActiveCampaign, at the top of the page, you can see two buttons ➡️ Active and Inactive. Make sure to click the Active button so your automation will be released:
Also, make sure that your survey is enabled in your Survicate panel as well. If your survey is marked as Disabled, it will not collect replies. Make sure that both your survey and your automation are enabled.
I can see fake responses to my email survey
I can see fake responses to my email survey
If you're sending your survey via email, you can see irrelevant or fake responses to your survey. This is because the anti-spam filters tend to go through some of the emails you send and check the content. Such security checks can result in fake/irrelevant responses.
To prevent it, make sure to enable the Email answers confirmation feature in your survey:
This will keep your surveys safe from redundant replies. We have it fully described here.
