Targeting your surveys based on where your visitors come from enables you to gather insights about specific visitors and their needs depending on their traffic source.

You can gather information from visitors who came to your website directly, from a different website, a search engine, or a campaign (ads, UTM mediums, UTM source, terms, or campaign names).

Set up targeting based on traffic source

1. Head over to Edit > Target > Audience:

2. Create a New Audience, then pick Visit Source under the Add Filter button:

3. Here, pick whether you'd like to include or exclude the users with a specific visit source:

4. Pick the source of visit you'd like to filter, and click Create Audience:

Types of sources of visit

There are four types of visit sources that you can use to define your survey's Audience:

1. Directly:

They came to your website either by typing the URL on the search bar or from a bookmark.

2. From a different website:

Ether generally or from a specific page. It’s especially useful for tailored and contextual questions. You can specify the referrer source by URL conditions:

If you'd like to add additional websites, just click +Add another page:

3. From a search engine

They have found your website after they searched for something on Google, Yahoo, etc.

4. From a campaign

Target visitors based on ads, UTM mediums, UTM sources, terms, or campaign names.

We count visited URLs based on Session Storage, which only maintains data while the session is active, typically as long as the browser or tab is open. Once the visitor closes the tab or the browser, session storage data is deleted.

πŸ’‘ You can also add more filters to a specific audience by clicking Add Filter.

❗️Remember! You have to enable the audience to display the survey properly!

πŸ“Œ If you have two or more audiences enabled, we trigger the surveys to all enabled audiences.

Best practices

Target the survey on specific URLs or show it with a delay

Choose to show your survey after someone has scrolled a part of your webpage when they're about to exit, or only on some of your website's subpages. Visit our targeting basic guide to learn how to achieve this.

Set up your website survey's Triggers

From your Survicate Panel, you can choose on which device you want to display the survey and who and how often you will see it and decide on what URLs and when they should appear.
