Upload a file to import your data and categorize it in Research Hub

Written by Agnieszka

With file import as your Research Hub source, you can bring notes, documents, and feedback exports from any tool. Every insight links back to the exact source it came from, so nothing gets lost and every finding stays defensible.

Import file to Research Hub

Step 1. Navigate to Hub in your Survicate Panel. If you haven't added any data to the Hub yet, click on Data source ➡️ Files ➡️ Import file.

Step 2. Select the file you wish to upload.

📌 We support CSV, TXT, MD, and MDX files. The maximum file size is 20MB.

How to upload a CSV file?

All feedback in the uploaded CSV file should be in one column. Otherwise, some of it won't be imported.

Please ensure there are no empty rows separating the feedback entries.

  • Text fields should be surrounded by quotation marks (") in the file.

Other columns of the imported file can include additional data, such as User traits, Response traits.

  • The first two fields in the pop-up window are mandatory to fill out. Here, you can specify which column of your CSV file is the feedback you wish to import, and what date should be assigned to the pieces of feedback.

Additionally, you can map data from the file's certain columns as user or feedback attributes, which will be visible next to each feedback piece in the Hub:

All other files you can upload as plain text without any modification.

Using Research Hub

Now that you have uploaded a file to Research Hub, you can use this feedback as a source in any Project. Research Hub's AI will analyze it alongside feedback from your other connected sources to:

  • surface key themes and trends across your feedback;

  • identify issues and concerns reported by customers;

  • generate a ready-to-review report summarizing findings and conclusions.

Run a Project

To put this feedback to work, start a Project. Give it a research question, select this file as one of your sources, and click New Research Project.

A Research Project is a focused analysis built around a specific research question. You define the question, choose which feedback sources to include, and run the analysis on your terms.

The report summarizes the key themes from your feedback, with each conclusion linked directly to the source quote it came from.

💡 You can select multiple sources for a single Project - combine your uploaded file with surveys, support tickets, call transcripts, and more for a fuller picture.

Add more feedback

At any point, click Data to connect another source. If you haven't uploaded transcription or files before, navigate to Research Hub ➡️ Data Source to upload new data that you can use in your running research.

Ask Research Assistant

Research Hub comes with a Research Assistant that can answer questions about your feedback directly. Open it inside a Project, and it will already know your research goals and the sources you've selected - no need to explain the context each time.

Ask it to surface themes from your uploaded feedback, compare it with other sources, or dig into a specific finding from your report.
