By installing the Survicate tracking code viaย Google Tag Manager, you'll be able to:
receive insights about your website or product;
trigger a survey based on specific events such as exit intent;
capture responses from visitors in real time;
embed a Feedback Button to collect continuous feedback.
In this article, you'll learn how to install Survicate on your website, either while launching your survey or from your account settings.
To install Survicate on your website, follow one of the two methods described below (choose whichever one you prefer โ both are valid).
โ๏ธ Please remember that you should have the same Google Tag Manager account you'll be using to connect to Survicate, installed on the website where you wish to run surveys.
Use the Google Tag Manager One-Click Installation
1. Navigate to the Launch tab of your Website or in-product survey and choose Install with Google Tag Manager.
2. Click on Install Now from the Google Tag Manager One-Click Installation window.
3. Pick your GTM account, container, and workspace from the list when a modal window appears and click Install.
You should see a message saying: Tracking code has been installed.
๐ All done!
In Google Tag Manager, a new Survicate tag should appear with the date and time of the installation:
๐กYou can follow the same process analogically by going toย Surveys Settings > Web surveys, instead of installing Survicate from a particular survey's Launch tab.
Add Survicate code to your Google Tag Manager manually
1. Go to Surveys Settings > Web surveysย and copy the code from the Manual installation section:
or from a Website or in-product's Launch tab:
2.ย Go to your Google Tag Manager account, open the container you wish to use with Survicate, and create a new Tag.
3. Name your Tag and in its configuration, select Custom HTML and paste the code copied from Survicate:
4. Select a Trigger for your Tag to decide when the Survicate should load on your website, and set it live.
๐ In your Google Tag Manager account, you can set rules and triggers to decide from this tool's level when and where the Survicate surveys should be shown to your website visitors.
You can also do it in the survey's Target tab.
Troubleshooting
I see the error: "We couldn't publish your tracking code" while installing with GTM
If you have multiple workspaces, it's possible the tracking code for another workspace is already added to the GTM container. In this case, please create a new GTM container and select it during the installation.
Can I add your tracking code with the Survicate Widget available in Google Tag Manager?
This way of implementing tracking code is still being developed. Currently, we are not able to support troubleshooting caused by using the GTM Survicate Widget. It's recommended to use manual installation or the One-Click Installation described above.
