What is Mailchimp?

Mailchimp is a popular tool we integrate with, which makes it very easy to send out surveys and keep track of the respondents' answers.

Suppose you use a mailing list in Mailchimp to distribute your surveys. Remember to select Mailchimp as this survey's email software:

In that case, we automatically capture subscribers' first name, last name, and email address information - so you'll know who responded to your survey! You can filter survey results by these attributes, enable our native integration to send the responses to users' Mailchimp profiles, and use them to plan future campaigns.

Why is it a good idea to use Survicate alongside Mailchimp? Our tool automatically calculates and shows summarized results from a survey and allows you to see each individual's submission in one place.

How to get started?

Sending surveys via MailChimp and syncing answers to the respondents' profiles is very and quick easy to set up! Here you can see how to create and send Email surveys via Mailchimp and what the native Survicate - MailChimp integration can do here.

Whereas in this article, you'll find ideas for how to use our native Mailchimp integration and how to learn the most about your respondents with Email or Shareable link surveys sent via this tool.

Use case examples

While creating your survey, you can start with one of our ready-to-use templates or add questions from scratch. Both ways, you can create a survey that will fit your needs. Below, we listed our customers' most popular use cases.

1. Add a survey to your Mailchimp newsletter

By including a survey in your Mailchimp newsletter campaigns, you can better track client satisfaction levels and address any feedback from customers.

You can add follow-up questions to those who rated the newsletter badly to ask them for tips on what to improve. Here's an example template for a newsletter survey, ready to use!

2. Automate an Email survey to be sent out after a customer's first purchase

A survey you send in a Mailchimp email after purchase can inquire about product quality, shipping, or customer support. The answers will help you identify areas for improvement and increase customer satisfaction.

Mailchimp describes how to automate an email to be sent after a person's first purchase here. We'll show you how to build a survey to include in such automation that will ask about all the important aspects of the customer's experience.

You can use our Post-purchase survey template or create your own survey from scratch!

If you'd like to send a link to the survey in your Mailchimp email, using a matrix question is a great way for a respondent to rate multiple parts of the purchasing process:

However, if you'd rather embed the survey in the email, starting with an NPS®, a Rating or Smiley scale, or a Single-choice question is better.

3. Personalise the survey and boost the response rate by recalling respondent attributes

Include the respondent's name in the survey for a personalized touch or some other fact you know about them without creating a separate survey for each respondent!

You can add respondents' attributes (an identifying trait) to the email's name or body and to the survey's URL.

It's possible thanks to our attributes recalling feature and the possibility to recognize who answered the survey automatically. Including their name in the survey makes them feel seen, without too much additional work on your side!

4. Update respondent profiles in Mailchimp and schedule follow-up communication with unhappy customers

Following up with unhappy customers can help you reduce churn, learn about the pain points, and form long-lasting relationships.

  1. Create a survey and tag the MailChimp profiles of your respondents:

Assigning different tags based on someone's answer lets you differentiate between happy and unhappy contacts and, later on, only send follow-up messages to unsatisfied customers.

  2. Create a new Email or Shareable link survey to send to previously tagged customers via Automation:

3. The follow-up survey can be a short questionnaire with a Text-answer question asking for more feedback from unhappy customers. It's best to send it out soon after the original survey for at least two reasons:

  • the respondents will still remember why they left a low score;

  • you'll be able to act on their feedback quickly to improve the experience for future customers.

📚 See more ways of acting on negative feedback in our guide.

5. Automate quarterly NPS surveys with Mailchimp

Use the Mailchimp Automations option to configure an automatic distribution of your NPS surveys at defined time intervals. It can be handy to track how the NPS changes over time and if it's time to make changes to your service or product.

You can use our ready Net Promoter Score survey template. Simply click on Edit template, and it will open in your Survicate account. Make any adjustments, select Mailchimp in the Configure tab, and head to the Share tab.

Copy the HTML code if you'd like to embed the survey's first question in the Mailchimp email. If you'd rather include the link to the survey in the email or behind a CTA button, copy the survey's link.

In Mailchimp, head over to Automations > All journeys > Build from scratch and create a path that will send an email with a survey to an Audience, wait a certain period of time, then send the survey again, and so on.

Feel free to create an Automation most suitable for your use case.

6. Send out a survey to measure satisfaction after an event

Use a Survicate survey to measure attendee satisfaction after a conference or an event of any type. The survey can include questions about the organization, the attractions, and the overall experience. Send the survey through Mailchimp to easily target only those who attended and analyze the results to introduce data-driven improvements for future events.

Here's a template survey you can use to embed in the Mailchimp email or send as a hyperlink. Of course, feel free to modify the template's questions or add your own! 🚀

7. Collect user feedback on a new product feature

You can target users who have recently tried your new feature by embedding a survey in a Mailchimp email and only sending it to a selected list of recipients. Your customers' insights can then help improve the product and user experience.

Our Question Library contains a selection of ideas if you're not sure how to inquire about your customers' feedback about a feature:

Add the questions you like the most and send out the survey!

8. Create new contacts in Mailchimp when your survey is answered

Let's say you'd like to add customers who visit your website or mobile app to your Mailchimp Audience.

1. Create a Website or Mobile survey and add a Contact form question to ask for the respondent's details. You can decide which fields should be mandatory and optionally add a Consent checkbox in the question's Settings, to only let contacts who agree to your Terms and Conditions submit their answer:

2. In the survey's Connect tab, search for Mailchimp and set up the Contact form question to use the data provided by the respondent to create a new profile:

You can also enable double opt-in to ensure you send the newsletter only to users who want to stay in touch.
